Believe it or not every blogger has experienced lack of traffic especially in the beginning phase of starting their blog. It's completely normal. You'll be competing with established bloggers for the attention of blog readers so you'll have to make sure your blog is optimized to retain readers as well.

In this article, we'll be sharing some free and easy tips to increase your blog traffic like an expert marketer. We'll only be sharing tips and tricks which we've personally used.

Tricks to Increase Blog Traffic.

Blogging is a great way to communicate with people and share your knowledge and interests. I prefer blogging because it provides both exposure and privacy. You don't need to be a professional writer, inorder to publish quality blog posts. With good research and quality content, you're bound to rank.

Utilize tools like Grammarly if your grammar or vocabulary isn't that good. Google docs also has an in-built spell checker to help minimize mistakes made when writing blog posts.

1. Find Low Competition Keywords.

In order to get visitors to your blog organically, you have to aspire to rank on search engines. But how? well it's simple you'll need to write on low competition topics in your niche. If your blog is new, then you most probably won't  have a high domain rating so it would be nearly impossible to rank for competitive keywords.

That's why you'll need to write on low competition topics with keyword difficulty scores not more than ten. The thing is, most keyword research tools are either inaccurate or expensive so how can you find low competition keywords?  Now, this method won't be easy but it's worth trying out if you don't want to pay for keyword research tools.

Go to ahrefs keyword generator

using ahrefs keyword generator

Type in a broad keyword (related to your niche).

ahrefs will then provide a list of a hundred keywords that are similar.

Keywords with little search volume usually have lower difficulty scores but that's not always the case.

In order to find more niched down keywords you'll need to be specific.

Similarly you can just type type in a keyword half way and let the auto complete do the rest.

Example: Gaming laptops under.........

ahrefs will automatically pull keywords related to this search term.

Use the auto complete feature to find keywords when you don't want to be too specific.

2. Optimize your Blog Post.

As I said earlier, optimizing your blog post is crucial if you want to rank on search engines and boost your blog's dwell time. Optimizing your website or blog for search engines is known as SEO.

An illustration of SEO

SEO is divided into two parts: off page and on page. The latter refers to backlinks, domain authority, social shares etc while the former refers to keywords, title length, content etc. I'll be focusing on on-page SEO as I think it's the most essential part of SEO. So how can you optimize your blog post for readers and search engines?

Create Killer Headlines.

Your blog post title is the first thing people are going to see when scrolling through google so you have to make sure it's very enticing to readers( refrain from clickbait as it will only get you opposite results) The best way of creating great titles is by trying as much as possible to answer the reader's question in your titles or stating both the problem and solution.

If you're having a hard time creating headlines then you should use headline generators. There are some free online headline generators like hubspot's blog topic generator, SEOpressor's blog title generator, Hoth's blog topic headline generator etc

Incorporate media elements into your blog.

Adding media elements ( images, charts, graphs, videos, gifs) into your blog content makes it easier for Google, as well as readers to understand what your content is all about. Google will only display the most concise and in-depth blog posts at the top if search results, even if it means displaying topics that aren't necessarily related topically to the search query. So including these images will tell Google that your content is very informative.

Write like a Pro.

As I just said, having quality content matters a lot. When writing your blog posts you need to make sure it's as informative as possible, include LSI keywords often, and make sure your target keywords are inserted strategically into your blog post (description, image alt text and title, headings) etc.

You can use free LSI generators like keysearch

Research is also another great way of writing quality content. Including statistical information into your blog post helps a lot. It lets people know that your content is backed by facts and not just blind guesses. Linking back to the source of the information also helps in terms of SEO.

3. Use Social Media.

This is where a lot of people mess up. When people say "use social media to promote your blog" they don't mean spamming people with unwanted information. There's a time and place for everything so posting your blog URL aimlessly won't provide the results you're looking for.

There are ways of effectively promoting your blog on social media and driving traffic to your blog. Before pasting your link anywhere you need to ask yourself whether the audience is interested in the information you're about to share. What problems are they facing and how can you help solve them?

Social media apps differ in terms of the content so you'll need to approach each one of them in different ways. Some are more effective than others too

For example blog post promotions are best on apps like. Linkedin, Medium, Tumblr, Quora, Youtube, and Reddit. This doesn't mean you can't promote your blog on other social media platforms.

These apps are usually the best for promotion because they all have an engaged audience. It also works well because people on forums are specifically looking for quick answers to their questions which you can use to your advantage by providing them with quality content.

You can also run a giveaway on your blog maybe give out a free ebook or a product to get more traffic to your blog (make sure to not overdo it though) you can then use that giveaway to generate an email list by making it compulsory for people to sign up to your newsletter before accessing the free content. This is an excellent way to generate leads.

4. Use Your Email List.

Most bloggers, especially beginners, spend way too much time trying to get new readers to their blog. You don't need to bother much about getting new readers to your blog. You can just publish a blog post and get thousands or millions of page views within a few days.

Yes, it's totally possible if you have an email list. The harsh truth is more than 70% of users who read your blog post won't return. So you need to find a way to retain them. This is by building an email list. It's similar to youtube subscribers in the sense that you're building an audience that is already interested in your content so you don't need to worry too much about getting new readers.

How do you make sure that users return to your website?

You do that by asking them to subscribe to your blog.

The best thing about an email list is that it belongs to you. So even if you decide to create a new blog you'll still have your audience.

Email marketing is the most cost-efficient and highly effective marketing tool at your disposal. Once you have an email list, you can send regular email newsletters to bring more visitors to your blog. We recommend using Mailchimp, SendinBlue, Getresponse or ConvertKit.

5. Publish Blog Posts Regularly.

Believe it or not publishing blog posts regularly really helps a lot both in terms of traffic and SEO. The more blog posts you publish the higher your impressions will be and if the higher your chances of getting clicks.

posting on a regular basis also tells Google that your blog is active.
